Do any or all of these resonate with you?
- Wondering how you’ll pay all those bills?
- Feel like you’re missing out on experiences you can’t afford?
- Worried about your credit card balance?
- Stressing about money in general?
You’re not alone. Several studies show that money is a big source of stress for many Australians:
Around 50% of people experience stress with personal financial issues – it’s the no.1 source of stress, topping even health and family issues.
Many people find dealing with money stressful, even when things are going well.
47% of people say finances cause them a little bit of stress, and 22% say it causes a lot of stress.
Polling by research group Roy Morgan says that most Aussies think economic and financial issues are the biggest problems our country is dealing with today. Specifically, people are worried about the national economy, interest rates, unemployment, poverty, foreign ownership/investment and the gap between rich and poor.
The media is dominated with stories about the economy being on the edge of recession, interest rates that are lower than ever, companies going bankrupt and big financial scandals in countries that Australia trades with. In truth, it’s not all that bad; Australia did well in surviving and recovering from the global financial crisis. We are also transitioning away from being a resources-based economy (i.e. relying on mining).
Of course, that doesn’t help when you’re dealing with your own personal set of financial circumstances. When you’re panicking about money, you want to know what you can do right away – not in a year’s time, when the economy has done this or that.
What to do
What can you do to feel better about things? How can you make it feel like you’re more in control and on top of the issues? The key is education. It’s about knowing the facts, understanding the systems and having the information you need to make smarter financial decisions. And you don’t have to have a degree in commerce or finance to know the ins and outs of managing your own money.
Right now, you have access to a range of educational programs. Each program is made up of units that take less than fifteen minutes each to work through. You can pick and choose the units you want, there’s no tests or exams, and you can access them privately - in your own time, on your own terms. It’s never been easier to help yourself stress less about money.
